I accept a 2004 Rdv with the 3400 V-6 and for the life of me cannot get the lower bolt back on the thermostat housing. Is there whatever way to get this one without removing the exhaust manifold? Any help would be profoundly appreciated.

Notice
Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the apply of thread locking chemical compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener articulation surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and articulation clamping force and may damage the fastener. Apply the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avert harm to parts and systems.

Install the thermostat housing bolts. Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

Install the radiator hose to the thermostat housing.

Install the crossover exhaust pipe. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Pipe Replacement in Engine Frazzle.

I know this is erstwhile post, but I have info on it.
I could non become the exhaust shield or pipe off because
the back bolts were hard to get too.
I managed to go a 13 mm wrench underneath and
behind the thermostat housing for the lower bolt.
I could turn it a 1/iv turn each time. I managed to get it
off.
So when it came time to put the thermostat housing and
thermostat back in. I installed the tiptop bolt of the thermostat
housing and looked with a light to ensure the hole was
lined up for the lower commodities on the thermostat housing.
I was able to put back in lower bolt and wrench it back on.
This is very difficult and time consuming.

Thanks for the post on getting the thermostat replaced without removal of the heat shield/crossover exhaust. I was able to get to both bolts holding the thermostat housing without removing the frazzle. The peak bolt tin be accessed with a 13 mm universal socket and a three" extension, merely I had to use a one-piece universal socket. If using a regular socket with a universal joint the total length was too long. The bottom bolt needed to be removed with an open-end 13 mm wrench from under the exhaust pipe. Yous can exercise it, only yous will take to motility it a small corporeality at a time and flip the open up-cease around to get each incrementally small plow of the bolt.

It helps a lot if the person doing this task has small hands, considering at that place isn't much room to get nether the exhaust pipe. (So if y'all have large hands, detect a friend with minor ones to assist.) Too, make sure yous are in a heated garage (in the North) and yous are not in any hurry. This chore takes some fourth dimension to consummate, but very do-able. Having another person helping by belongings the lite made a large difference for me.

Adding coolant to properly make full the system takes some fourth dimension likewise. Start the engine and get it warmed up, filling information technology equally it warms, then put the cap on. Then crack the bleeder on the thermostat housing, which releases the air in the system, until coolant comes out. Turn off the engine and let the system cool with fluid in the overflow tank. After it cools off completely, remove the cap and repeat the process. Keep repeating until the organisation is full at the cap after the cool down bicycle.

This will take some fourth dimension, and then be patient!

Best of luck, just I know it can be done ... I did it!:)

I have a 2004 Rdv with the 3400 V-half-dozen and for the life of me cannot get the lower bolt back on the thermostat housing. Is at that place any manner to get this one without removing the exhaust manifold? Any aid would be greatly appreciated.

Just got washed replacing the thermostat in my 2002 Rendezvous. I could not access the lower back bolt either. I did follow a YouTube video about replacing the thermostat which was somewhat helpful, but I went one step more than and removed the Throttle Body Assembly(TBA)(after the coolant bypass hardline was disconnected from the TBA).

Wow! All kinds of room to remove the two bolts from the Thermostat housing now! (lots of videos on how to remove the TBA out there besides. My thermostat had failed(stuck open) a while back at about 125-150K miles on the engine. 1 more piece of advice: the plastic vacuum tube that runs from the top of the MAF sensor associates(that connects to the TBA)and to the back of the engine, will most likely pull out of the behind of the engine when the TBA or MAF sensor assembly ductwork is removed. Mine did and I had to reach over the EGR and down and button the tube plumbing fixtures dorsum in. Good luck and skill!
